The products that we promote here are the same products that we use every day…and love. Nearly all of them are at least 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon Reviews. Not all of them are the absolutely-least-expensive in their category, mostly because we have become spoiled by some of them, and continue to buy them even though there is a less expensive version available. When you find products that you love, please let us know so that we can link to them and let everyone know!
MY FITNESS ROUTINE
Core and Cardio
In order to remain mobile, I work out every day. Mostly core fitness routine (based on this excellent book), but really a cross-fit program, with a strong focus on body weight exercises, with some free weights to maintain shoulders and arms, as well as zero-impact cardio (stairs, recumbent bike, and rowing). My wife and daughter like our Horizon elliptical trainer, whereas I prefer the recumbent bike and rowing machine for my cardio. I especially like the recumbent bike: great cardio, and easy on my back!
Yoga and Meditation
This routine is followed by 15 minutes of yoga to stretch and cool down, and that, in turn, is followed by 15 minutes of meditation. If I’m really driven, I perform my yoga routine on my VibePlate – see below.
My mentor at OSU recommended Vibeplate, but I dismissed the thought after checking the price. But I kept hearing and reading positive reviews, so I kept looking. I was fortunate to find a previously-owned Vibeplate for a great price (Not that new price! I paid less than that for my first car!!), and my brother-in-law was kind enough to transport it across country (it weights about 300 pounds!). Most of my core fitness routine is performed on my VibePlate, as well as a pull-up bar bolted into the ceiling. I use my Vibeplate even for routines based on free weights, because it triples the workout for the same time investment. You think squats are hard the usual way? Try squats on a Vibeplate…Whew! After using my Vibeplate for over a year now, it is so effective that I would consider paying full price for it if necessary (if I had the money). Check them out at www.vibeplate.com if you’re curious.
For our workout with free weights, we use an Olympic bench with leg curl attachment; we also have the full dumbbell rack. I’m LOVING the thick bar grips, and now have a set on the pull-up bar, as well as on the weight bar. Finally, the quick release locking clamps are SOOO much easier to use than those spring clamps. They are super-secure, which is appreciated when doing land-mine twists with the full bar (an excruciating core move).
For Focus and Intensity
During the workout, I listen to some strong beats to help keep up rhythm and motivation – usually something like The Crystal Method. To complement the crank, I usually enjoy an excellent cup of organic coffee as I’m preparing for my workout; as espresso if I need extra motivation. I limit my fluids to mild green tea during my workout; Numi Organic Gunpowder is my personal favorite.
Most Awesome Wireless Headset
As I transition into yoga the tunes get changed over to my Pandora station, Reiki & Meditation. Because we home-school our three kids, and someone is nearly always working on school work or practicing musical instruments nearby, I wear a Bluetooth headset for my tunes so I don’t disturb the peace. This awesome headset is not only wireless, but light-weight, and water resistant – meaning sweat resistant! Perfect for fitness tune-cranks.
Our stereo amp is “Bluetooth compatible,” but unfortunately, it doesn’t transmit Bluetooth, only receives. So until recently, that meant I listened to my workout tunes played through my smart phone. But then I found a Bluetooth transmitter that plugs into the headphone jack of the amplifier…pretty amazing!. This tiny, inexpensive transmitter lets me listen to anything that is played through that amp – including videos from the DVD/Blue-ray player, anything over cable (Amazon Prime Video or Netflix), as well as streaming Sacred Herbals HealthHAX™ Streaming Videos! Now time on the cardio machines doesn’t drag so much.
After the crank and cool-down, it’s to the Vitamix for my daily smoothie. As I’ve already described, this blender is one of the best purchases of my entire life! Every smoothie is designed, with the help of Julie Morris of course, with two goals in mind:
- Boost Metabolism
- Build Lean Muscle
Because I’m a life-long skinny, pencil-neck geek, I’m not trying to lose weight per se. Instead, because I’m a middle-aged guy with waning androgen levels, I’m trying to maintain (regain?) lean muscle mass, and forestall my middle-age bulge. And I’m succeeding! Details are included in the Sacred Herbals HealthHAX™ UNLIMITED Membership eBooks, guides, and Streaming Videos.
